Colorado-based Front Porch Digital to be acquired by Oracle

Date:16-09-2014

Oracle has agreed to acquire a provider of technology for monetizing, managing, migrating and delivering media content called Front Porch Digital.

Oracle said that it expects the transaction to be closed by the end of the year. Until the deal is closed, Front Porch Digital will continue to operate as an independent company.

The acquisition of Front Porch Digital gives Oracle an outlet to target big media companies that are monetizing content across multiple channels.

Big data technologies of Front Porch Digital help enterprises to effortlessly handle their complex and rapidly expanding volumes of digital media content, such as TV shows and high definition films, records and medical images, and real-time security monitoring feeds.

Based in Lafayette, Colorado, Front Porch helps manage more than 750 petabytes of data for its customers, which includes companies in entertainment and media, sports organizations, and government agencies. Besides the BBC, NASCAR, A&E Television, and Discovery, the European Parliament, and the U.S. Library of Congress also use the Front Porch Digital’s technology.

This acquisition could help Oracle offload its own technologies such as engineered systems, database, and storage and servers to address the high-performance needs of the rich-media market.

Oracle added that the combination of Front Porch with Oracle is expected to create an enterprise-grade cloud and on-premise content storage management offering to help organizations manage the delivery, storage, migration and integration of rich media content.

Front Porch Digital’s offerings include the Samma media migration technology, DIVASolutions content storage management system and Lynx cloud-based content management system.
Oracle quoted that it plans to optimize Front Porch Digital solutions with its own technologies, while maintaining the technology-agnostic profile of Front Porch offerings. Oracle plans to make considerable engineering investments, in Front Porch Digital’s content storage management solutions to help deliver innovations and features to customers more rapidly.

Oracle Systems’ Executive Vice President, John Fowler said that companies need a more modern and integrated content storage management solution to manage and monetize their valuable rich media assets. According to Fowler, they will continue to build on Front Porch Digital’s unique capabilities and the success, which complement Oracle’s scalable engineered storage solutions and high performance.
